It doesn't have an odd smell. I love the texture. I have coarse, low porosity hair that grows in a z pattern. It is not compacted hair like 4 c textures, but it is resistant to being straightened. Finding an edge gel is extremely hard for me, because it usually sits on top of the hair, The watery types make more frizz. This one is the best one for me. It's not perfect, but it is as close to perfection that I have found.
